An Introduction to Bitcoin – Seminars in Glendale and Covington
We’ve teamed up with Empower U Ohio to give An Introduction to Bitcoin seminar. Andy Schroder and Jerry Felix will give a 90 minute talk, followed by questions and answers from the audience. This event will be much more formal and structured than our regular “Bitcoin Discussion” networking events and is a great opportunity to hear a detailed explanation of bitcoin if you are still wondering how it works. If you are a regular attendee of the Cincinnati Bitcoin Initiative, feel like you are an experienced Bitcoin user, and would like to come just to help answer questions after the lecture one on one with those from the audience, that would be great! Groove Coffee in Covington now accepts Bitcoins
Our previous Cincinnati Bitcoin Meetup was held at Groove Coffee House in the Mainstrasse Village on Thursday, Jan 23.
Shop owner Pete Koufoudakis says he was skeptical at first but upon meeting all the interesting people at the Bitcoin Meetup he saw things with a new perspective. “I don’t think it (Bitcoin) is going away,” he tells me. Shortly after our meetup, Pete contacted BitPay, Inc. a payment processor for Bitcoin and set up his own account. He can now accept Bitcoin from customers and have US Dollars deposited into his merchant checking account the very next day. “I love the flexibility of taking it,” he proclaims.
He says his ultimate goal is to create a vibrant Bitcoin economy in the Mainstrasse Village. The inspiration for this goal comes from the Kreuzberg neighborhood of Berlin, Germany. Kreuzberg has the highest Bitcoin adoption rate in the world; almost all the merchants in the area have integrated Bitcoin.
For Pete, Bitcoin represents freedom and he loves to see how it pushes back on the legacy banking system. Hopefully we see more business owners in the area begin to embrace Bitcoin.

Firehouse Subs in Clifton Now Accepts Bitcoin!
Bitcoin has made it to the streets of Cincinnati…..
Firehouse Subs on Calhoun St. in Clifton is the first restaurant in the Cincinnati area to beginning accepting Bitcoin.
My journey takes me to the BearCat filled streets of Clifton, amongst the fury of activity along Calhoun St. I search for the area’s first restaurant to accept Bitcoin, a pioneer virtual currency. Firehouse owner, Brain Szitanko, welcomes me. “We had six phone calls today about it (Bitcoin) so something must have hit in the blogosphere,” he says. He plans on intergrating Bitcoin into his second Firehouse Subs location in Blue Ash, OH.
Come on in! We accept Bitcoin!
